Endings and beginnings? No difference sometimes.

I really enjoyed the last couple weeks of class. It puts a different spin on learning poetry when you get to read and share poems with everyone else. This might be my last creative writing class for awhile which makes me sad. However, I'm gonna try and write more like I used to in highschool, after this class is over. It was hard getting back into it this semester and I'm not really sure how I could have stopped writing for a few years. Kinda depressing huh? So I'll put that towards the top of my new years resolution list, maybe it'll get done. Seriously though this class reminded how important it was to let it out on paper, expressing yourself any other way just isn't the same. Also it reminded me that we should listen to what we say on paper, its often surprising. Good luck with finals everyone and have an awesome break!

  1. Colleen,
I totally know how you feel. I used to write all of the time, and then I just stopped. However, this class has brought the importance of expression to my attention once again. I mean, I used to be an English major. How did I make the switch to Sociology? I will probably never get the chance to use my creative writing skills in that field.. so it is sad for me too.
I think I already wrote this to you on a sheet I gave you, but I absolutely loved your "Dad's Recipe" poem! It was so original and creative. I would love to write something that great to my dad. It inspired me to get working on something for him that I can type up and frame for father's day or something. Good luck to you in your future endeavors!

  2. Colleen & Melissa,
I entirely agree. I feel as though life gets so busy we forget what just a few minutes of free writing can do. I used to keep a journal everyday which lasted about 3 months. Those memories are something I now always have vivid descriptions of and it's something I want to continue.
Though it may be sad that you both feel it might be hard to continue writing creatively I encourage you to keep a notebook somewhere, or in your purse. Jot down things you notice or are compelled to write about- Its really cool to go back and look later on at them.
Good luck with finals & keep writing!

  3. Everyone,
I agree with everything! I've always been an avid reader, but coming to college has really put a damper on that, but this class has brought me back down to earth, and showed me that there's always time to read. I've never really read poetry before this class, a little here and there, but this semester really made me realize how much I enjoyed it! I plan on expanding my library with lots of poetry from now on! Good luck with finals, and I hope you keep writing!

  4. I also really enjoyed hearing other students read there work. I found it nice to see what style others like. At first i was really nervous about having to read my work in front of everyone, i tend to be a really shy person and it was hard for me to read poems that at times were really personal to me. Overall I believe it really helped me, and it was very enjoyable.
