I do not particularly enjoy talking about myself. It is not something I am averse to, I just simply avoid doing so. Perhaps better communication with my muse will allow for better self-expression. I am still unsure as to when inspiration hits me in regards to what consistently inspires me or what conditions I have to be under. Inspiration takes too many forms to say for sure, so I can only do my part to be in the habit to write. That being said, the grand majority of my inspiration comes from going out and doing things. Occasionally a stray thought will come across my mind, and I run with it. Either that or I begin to imagine scenarios originally based off actual events. I have the most fun describing something happening in a unique fashion.
To give an example of the stray thoughts I have, tonight while on the road it appeared to me as if the entire world was engulfed in a black void and the only things that existed was the road and the other cars. Existence was determined by whether or not anything was illuminated by the high beams.
When looking at my Red Cross donor's card, I imagined a scenario where an entirely depressed person only finds solace in a discarded donor's card that says "B Positive".
While mopping up the kitchen floor at home, the sentence "He did not so much mop as push water around." popped into my head.
I look forward to dig into my head to see what I come up with and sharing it with the rest of the class.
I agree: I don't like writing (directly) about myself either. It's much more fun to make things up and more particularly, as you indicate here, to use random objects and/or moments for Muse spurs. In fact, I think most of my best pieces come out of these kinds of Muse writes. So definitely make some poems out of these observations/thoughts/musings.
