Genre Fixation!

I've noticed a common thread in my poetry throughout the semester; most of what I write is situation based. Err, meaning that when I sit down to write, what comes out is a story, but not a story. Something happens. Characters are present, a setting is present, an event occurs. I have somewhat managed to direct the Muse writing to limit it from going full-out story-mode since my last post, but have found my poetry severely limited to the genres of horror and fantasy. I can't say I've put my heart into switching to something else, as these topics are what interest me the most, and therefore, my best poetry comes from writing about them! Ah well, if REAL poets can stick with one genre, then why can't I?

  1. I feel the same way. My poems are always about pure souls and how people change. They also talk about how people over come their problems. I have to revise all of my poems so that they all don't sound the same or have the same subject matter.
