Revising! :/
Since the last post, we have explored a few new poets and have started the revision process. So far, I am finding the process a bit difficult mainly because I genuinely like what I wrote the first time. I did my best the first time around and feel like if I try “revising” them now, I am totally changing my whole poem. Almost as if the original base or thought from my original poem is now lost. Maybe that’s whats supposed to happen and I am mistaken...i don’t know? I have attempted and am able to change words or phrases here and there, but not nearly as much as when we revised in class. However, it really doesn’t sound that much better to me, I’m just cutting out a bunch from the original. I guess before we started revising I thought it would be easier and somewhat fun, but now I’m just finding it challenging and I’m lost. Hopefully with the workshop coming up though I will find my way again!

I understand completely! When I revise, I feel like I'm completely changing the poem, losing the mood, messing with the rhythm. I guess I thought that revision would mean improving the poem already there, but instead it just feels like a brand new poem- and not all that better. I guess we thought it would be easy. But it isn't. It's like improving on essays, rereading it for the flow, transition, word choice, content, and length. Hopefully, like revising essays, we'll get better as we go!
